The Toyota RAV4 is the best-selling non-truck in America and one of the most popular vehicles in the Dongar lineup. Whether you drive a base LE, a loaded Limited, a RAV4 Hybrid, or a RAV4 Prime PHEV, there's a Dongar adapter that fits your SUV. Plug-and-play installation, no fuse box access needed, and the cleanest dash cam install you'll find.

Why not just hardwire? Traditional hardwire kits require tapping into the fuse box, routing long cable runs, and risk voiding warranty claims. The RAV4's dash cam sweet spot is right at the windshield near the rearview mirror — exactly where Dongar's adapters connect. Plug in, route a short USB-C cable, and you're done. No cutting, no tools, no mess.

Which Adapter Fits Your RAV4?

All 5th-generation RAV4 models (2019–2025) use one of two connection points depending on trim. The key question: does your RAV4 have an auto-dimming rearview mirror?

RAV4 / RAV4 Hybrid / RAV4 Prime (2019–2025)

Trim Auto-Dimming Mirror? TSS (DCA-12T) Mirror (DCA-10B) PRO / PRO+
LE No ✓ (12T harness)
XLE No ✓ (12T harness)
SE No ✓ (12T harness)
Adventure No ✓ (12T harness)
TRD Off-Road No ✓ (12T harness)
Woodland No ✓ (12T harness)
XLE Premium Yes ✓ (10B or 12T)
Limited Yes ✓ (10B or 12T)
Hybrid XSE Yes ✓ (10B or 12T)
Hybrid Limited Yes ✓ (10B or 12T)
Prime SE / Prime XSE Yes ✓ (10B or 12T)
RAV4 Prime = RAV4 Hybrid compatibility. The RAV4 Prime (PHEV) uses the same mirror and TSS connectors as the RAV4 Hybrid. If your Prime trim has an auto-dimming mirror, you get both DCA-10B and DCA-12T as options. If not, DCA-12T is your adapter.
Most RAV4 owners only need the DCA-12T. The majority of RAV4s on the road are LE, XLE, SE, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, or Woodland trims — none of which come with an auto-dimming mirror. The DCA-12T connects to the TSS lane-trace computer behind the mirror shroud and works on every trim regardless of mirror type.

Two Connection Points Explained

🛡️ TSS Computer

DCA-12T (12-Pin Type T)

Shares power from the Toyota Safety Sense lane-trace assist computer behind the mirror shroud. Does NOT connect to the mirror itself. Works on every RAV4 trim — no auto-dimming mirror required. The universal option.

🔌 Rearview Mirror

DCA-10B (10-Pin Type B)

Plugs into the auto-dimming mirror connector underneath the plastic mirror shroud. Only available on trims with an auto-dimming mirror (Limited, XLE Premium, Hybrid XSE, Hybrid Limited, Prime). USB output mounts on the windshield near the mirror.

Don't confuse the connectors! Behind the mirror shroud, you'll see both the mirror connector (10-pin) and the TSS computer connector (12-pin). They look similar but are different products for different connectors. The DCA-10B pamphlet warns: "Most Toyotas have a 12-Pin Safety Sense Connector that can easily be confused with your rearview mirror connection: DO NOT UNPLUG THIS." Use the Compatibility Finder to confirm which adapter you need.

How to Install

TSS Install (DCA-12T) — Works on All Trims

  1. Tilt your rearview mirror down and remove the plastic mirror shroud/cover
  2. Locate the 12-pin TSS lane-trace computer connector — NOT the mirror connector if you have one
  3. Unplug the TSS harness
  4. Plug the Dongar DCA-12T adapter inline between the harness and TSS computer
  5. Route the USB-C cable behind the headliner to your dash cam
  6. Replace the shroud — done

Mirror Install (DCA-10B) — Premium Trims Only

  1. Tilt your rearview mirror down and remove the plastic mirror shroud/cover
  2. Locate the 10-pin auto-dimming mirror connector underneath the plastic mirror shroud — NOT the nearby TSS connector
  3. Unplug the mirror harness
  4. Plug the Dongar DCA-10B adapter inline between the harness and mirror
  5. Route the USB-C cable behind the headliner to your dash cam
  6. Replace the shroud — done
Pro tip: If you have a premium trim with an auto-dimming mirror, you have a choice. The DCA-12T (TSS) and DCA-10B (mirror) both work. Many owners prefer the DCA-12T because it's the same install regardless of trim — easier to follow video guides. Either way, same 18W USB-C output.

Parking Mode

Want your dash cam recording while your RAV4 is parked? The Dongar PRO and PRO+ add intelligent parking mode to any Dongar connection point.

A word about parking mode: It sounds great on paper — your dash cam watches your car 24/7. In reality, memory cards fill up quickly with motion-triggered clips (especially in busy parking lots), and most front-only or front+rear cameras won't capture a side-impact hit-and-run anyway. Repeated charge/discharge cycles can also wear on your vehicle battery over time. That said, if you do want parking mode, the Dongar approach gives you more flexibility than generic hardwire kits — easy install, easy removal, and built-in voltage cutoff to protect your battery. That's why we invented these products: to give you more options, not fewer.

Dongar PRO PMA-01

3-position switch:
• IGN — on with engine only
• Timed — 4 hours after parking
• Continuous — up to 36 hrs, 11.8V cutoff

Includes 5A + 5C + 10B harnesses in one box. Use Harness 10B for RAV4 (mirror connection per harness chart, "all other w/ Homelink").

Dongar PRO+ PRS-01

OLED display + one-button menu:
• Custom voltage cutoff (0.01V precision)
• Custom timer (hrs + mins, default 8hr)
• Energy Budget mode (Eco/Normal/Heavy)
• 5V always-on + Parking Mode CC for Viofo/RedTiger

Same harnesses as PRO. Swap module & mount if upgrading.

RAV4 Hybrid & Prime owners: Your hybrid/PHEV doesn't use the 12V battery to start the engine — the high-voltage battery system handles that. This means extended parking mode is even less of a concern for your 12V battery. The PRO's low-voltage cutoff provides an extra safety net regardless. RAV4 Prime owners with a full charge can park for extended periods with the dash cam running worry-free.
Using a Viofo or RedTiger dash cam? These cameras have non-standard USB-C implementations. The Dongar PRO+ has dedicated "5V Output Always-On" and "Parking Mode CC" settings that bypass the USB-C handshake, letting these cameras properly enter and exit parking mode. The PRO will keep them recording continuously, but they won't enter their low-power standby state.

Dongar vs. Alternatives

You'll find generic "mirror tap" adapters on Amazon from brands like Mangoal and FitDVR. Here's how they compare:

Feature Dongar Mangoal / FitDVR
USB-C Power Delivery ✓ True 18W PD (5V/9V/12V) ✗ Basic 5V only
Parking Mode Support ✓ PRO / PRO+ modules available ✗ No parking mode option
Vehicle-Specific Harness ✓ Trim-specific connectors ~ Generic fit, may not match all trims
Warranty ✓ 3-year warranty ~ 30-day / 1-year typical
Install Documentation ✓ Vehicle-specific pamphlets + videos ~ Generic instructions
Community Support ✓ Active Reddit / forum presence ✗ Limited
Multiple Connection Points ✓ Mirror + TSS options ~ Mirror only (most models)
Dash Cam Compatibility ✓ Works with all USB-C cams ~ May not power higher-draw cams
Bottom line: Generic adapters give you basic power. Dongar gives you true USB-C PD, parking mode options, vehicle-specific engineering, and a 3-year warranty. For a family SUV you depend on daily, the difference matters.

What RAV4 Owners Are Saying

+1 for this. I have a Viofo in both mine and my wife's RAV4s. Also, if you have the auto dimming rear mirror, you can get a Dongar adapter and power video dash cam through that for a really seamless look.

i recently got the viofo a119m front 4k dash cam for my 2025 rav4 phev xse with pp (planning to use it with a dongar classic adapter)

— u/thinkingatoms, r/rav4prime • 2025 RAV4 Prime XSE

I've ordered a Viofo A119 V3 to put in my 2025 Rav4 XSE hybrid. I do have an auto-dimming mirror and a sunroof and would like to tie into one of those rather than the fuse box

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Dongar adapter do I need for my RAV4?

It depends on your trim level. Most RAV4 trims (LE, XLE, SE, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, Woodland) do not have an auto-dimming mirror, so the DCA-12T (TSS computer connection) is your adapter. Higher trims with an auto-dimming mirror (Limited, XLE Premium, Hybrid XSE, Hybrid Limited, Prime) can use either the DCA-10B (mirror) or the DCA-12T (TSS). For parking mode, add the PMA-01 (PRO) or PRS-01 (PRO+). Use the Compatibility Finder to confirm.

What's the difference between base trims and premium trims for Dongar compatibility?

The key difference is whether your RAV4 has an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Base and mid trims (LE, XLE, SE, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, Woodland) do not — they use a standard manual-dimming mirror with no connector behind it. These trims use the DCA-12T only, which connects to the TSS lane-trace computer. Premium trims (Limited, XLE Premium, Hybrid XSE, Hybrid Limited, all Prime trims) have an auto-dimming mirror, giving you two options: DCA-10B (mirror) or DCA-12T (TSS).

Does Dongar work with RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Prime?

Yes — same adapters, same install. The RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Prime use the same mirror and TSS connectors as the standard RAV4. Hybrid and Prime owners actually have an advantage for parking mode: the high-voltage battery system starts the engine, not the 12V battery. This means extended dash cam parking mode has even less impact on your ability to start the car. The Dongar PRO's low-voltage cutoff still protects your 12V battery regardless.

Which dash cams work best with Dongar on the RAV4?

Dongar's 18W USB-C Power Delivery output works with virtually all USB-C powered dash cams. Popular choices among RAV4 owners include the Viofo A119 Mini / A229 series, Garmin Mini 2 / Mini 3, and 70mai cameras. For Viofo and RedTiger cameras specifically, the Dongar PRO+ is recommended for proper parking mode detection — it has dedicated settings to handle their non-standard USB-C handshake. Any USB-C dash cam that draws 18W or less will work perfectly.

How does the Dongar PRO handle parking mode on the RAV4?

The Dongar PRO (PMA-01) adds a 3-position switch: IGN (on with engine only), Timed (4 hours after parking), and Continuous (up to 36 hours with 11.8V battery cutoff). For the RAV4, the PRO uses Harness 10B for mirror connection per the harness chart ("all other w/ Homelink"). The Dongar PRO+ (PRS-01) upgrades this with an OLED display, custom voltage cutoff, custom timer, and Energy Budget mode. Both include multiple harnesses in one box.
